SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team has clinched the fifth seed of the 2018 CCAA Men's Soccer Championships. The Gators will head to fourth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday, October 30. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
In their only meeting of the season on September 21, the Gators fell 1-0 at CSUSB on a goal in the 68th minute.
A season ago, the Gators ended a postseason drought that dated back to 1978 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals with a 1-0 upset of No. 13 UC San Diego in the first round.
This season, the Golden Gators, who are ranked No. 7 in the latest NCAA Division II West Region poll, stand at 10-3-3 overall. Sophomore goalkeeper
Peter Swinkels leads all of NCAA Division II with an .892 save percentage and is tied with three keepers with 10 shutouts. He is fourth in the nation with a .419 goals against average, which is also fourth best by a team. As a team, the Gators have compiled an .897 save percentage, which is the best in the nation. At the offensive end,
Carlos Trujeque leal leads the team with five goals.
Clayton Sato and
Aydan Bowers each have four apiece.
