SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State Men's Basketball team is tied for No. 10 in this week's DII West Region Men's Basketball Media Poll sponsored by D2SIDA.
San Francisco State (4-1/1-0 CCAA) boasts the top-rated scroing defense in the West Region, allowing just 58.8 points per game, which is also eighth lowest in NCAA Division II. The team's 35.8 field goal percentage defense is seventh. San Francisco State is averaging 11 steals per game, which is 10th best in the nation.
The Golden Gators are led by
Ryne Williams' 11.2 points per game. Guards
Jase Wickliffe and
Kenny Macklin both chip in 8.6 points per game while
Chiefy Ugbaja and
Jordan Balser add 8.0 and 7.0 points per game, respectively. Ugbaja leads the team with 7.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game, followed by Williams' 7.2 rebounds per game. Backup point guard
Niquis Garland is tied for third in the CCAA in assist to turnover ratio (1.7) and fourth in assists per game (3.4).
The Gators will face the No. 2 team in the West Region, Cal Poly Pomona, on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m., and Chico State, ranked ninth in the region, on Saturday, December 1 at 3 p.m.
