MBB | SF State Will Host First-Round Playoff Game

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's basketball team has clinched the fourth seed of the 2019 CCAA Men's Basketball Championships. The Gators will host fifth seed Cal State LA on Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.m.

The news comes on the 50th anniversary of the Gators' 1968-69 Far Western Conference Championship. This season, the Gators are 18-9 overall and finished 14-8 in CCAA play. SF State has now earned a CCAA Championships berth for the fourth consecutive season and a first-round home game for a second time. Last season, the Gators won at Cal State San Marcos in double overtime, then fell in the semifinals to host, No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona. The 2016-17 season saw the Gators advance to the CCAA Championship game, as well as to the NCAA Division II West Regionals that season.

SF State ranks 18th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (40.4 percent), in large part thanks to the team's senior leadership. Senior Chiefy Ugbaja, who is the program's all-time steals leader with 156, is third in the CCAA with 2.14 per game. His 47 steals this season are fourth-most among CCAA players. Fellow senior Ryne Williams' 173 total rebounds and 6.41 rebounds per game are both eighth highest in the CCAA. Jiday Ugbaja leads the Gators at the offensive end with 13.7 points per game, followed by Williams at 10.9 points per game. Jase Wickliffe is averaging 9.4 points for the Gators and Chiefy Ugbaja is averaging 8.6 points. Jordan Balser and Zane Paddon are also contributing 8.3 and 8.0 points per game, respectively.

General admission tickets are $10. Students with ID, senior, military (with valid ID), and children (6-17) are $5. Associated Students is covering the cost of tickets for the first 100 SF State students with a valid Gator Pass. For those following from home, SF State will provide live stats and video will for Tuesday's game. In-game updates and highlights will be provided by the team's Twitter account at @sfstate_mbb.
