MBB | Ugbaja Cousins, Williams named to All-CCAA Men's Basketball Team

CHICO, Calif. — Three San Francisco State men's basketball players have been named to the 2018-19 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball All-Conference Team. Jiday Ugbaja was named to the First Team, Ryne Williams was named to the Second Team, and Chiefy Ugbaja garnered Honorable Mention.
 
Jiday Ugbaja made a huge contribution to SF State in his one season as a Gator. In 27 appearances and 25 starts, he led the Gators with 13.6 points per game, ninth-best in the CCAA. The San Francisco native had four games with 20 or more points and scored a career-high 31 points in a win at Cal State San Bernardino. He also dished out a career-high seven assists in a home win versus CSUSB and grabbed a career-high six rebounds in a win versus Cal State San Marcos. Ugbaja was named Gator of the Week for week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 after hitting the game-winning free throw in a two-point win over Cal State LA. He also hit the game-winner in the regular-season finale at Humboldt State.
Williams was a five-year member of the program and logged 107 career appearances. He as been a fixture for the Gators, having appeared in the last 89 consecutive games from his sophomore to senior seasons. Williams was named one of the best players of the exhibition season by Hoops HD after recording a double-double (22 points and 12 rebounds) in an exhibition at Division I Nevada. Williams was then named 2018 San Francisco State Tipoff Classic MVP.  He set new career highs with 33 points and 12 rebounds in an overtime loss to Cal Poly Pomona and matched his career-high 12 rebounds in another loss at Cal Poly Pomona. This season, the Castaic, California native averaged 10.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He finishes with 690 career points (6.4 ppg) and 356 career rebounds (3.3 rpg).
Another five-year member of the program, Chiefy Ugbaja concludes his career as the Gators' all-time steals leader with 159. He had nine as a freshman and then three consecutive season with 50. Ugbaja's career-high seven steals in a win at Cal State Monterey Bay tied him for second and his steal in a win over Cal State San Marcos moved him into first-place all-time on the Gators' career list. The San Francisco native scored a career-high 18 points in a win over Cal State San Marcos and matched career marks with 12 rebounds, six steals, and four blocks in a win over CSUMB. He also dished out a career-high five assists in a win over Pacific Union. Ugbaja averaged 8.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season. He finishes his career with 729 points (7.5 ppg) and 438 rebounds (4.5 rpg).
