CHICO, California - A total of eight San Francisco State student-athletes were named to the 2018-19 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic team for the winter, the CCAA announced this morning.
The eight honorees for the Gators is tied for the third-most in the CCAA this season. SF State men's basketball boasts six honorees of Kenny Macklin, Zane Paddon, Chiefy Ugbaja, Jiday Ugbaja, Jase Wickliffe and Ryne Williams. Kaleigh Pugh and Jhaina Stephens represent women's basketball.
This is Williams' third CCAA Winter All-Academic nod and Stephens', C. Ugbaja's and Wickliffe's second. The six Gators representing mens' basketball are the most in the CCAA. Cal State East Bay led the way with ten honorees while Stanislaus State followed with nine.
The seasonal academic awards which were instituted in 2014, showcase individuals who are a sophomore in athletic standing or higher who maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport. A total of 79 men and women from across the CCAA's 13 member institutions have been honored for their efforts in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year.
The CCAA Winter All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's basketball. The Spring All-Academic Team, slated to be released tomorrow, consists of student-athletes from men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, softball and baseball. A total of 312 student-athletes were already recognized on the Fall All-Academic Team, honoring those eligible competitors in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
