Gators Place 20 Student-Athletes on CCAA Spring All-Academic Team

CHICO, California - A total of 20 San Francisco State student-athletes were named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Spring All-Academic Team, the conference announced this morning.

Baseball and women's track & field led the way with seven honorees each. Baseball's Cameron Crone, Connor Fidone, Jack Higgins and Jackson Kritsch earn their second-consecutive Spring All-Academic award. Riley Cleary, Kyler Crone and Hudson Hartley make their debuts this season. For the CCAA Champion track & field squad, Devanique Brown, Kennedy Hardemion and Courtney Massengale make it three-straight All-Academic nods while Charlene Aguilera, Nicole Lau, Arianna Prestosa and Jessica Tarm earn their first appearnaces.

Softball boasts six members with Kylee Brown, Emily Mitchell, Katie Rohrer, Karla Soto, Sam Drucker and Andrea Hildan. Rohrer and Soto are also two-time All-Academic honorees.

A record 349 student-athletes from the 13 member institutions were named to the Spring All-Academic Team. Despite the 3.3 gpa threshold for inclusion, athletes across the league demonstrate their prowess in the classroom at even higher levels. An impressive tally of 218 men and women maintain at least a 3.5 gpa, with 72 individuals reaching an even more stringent benchmark of 3.8.

The seasonal academic awards which were instituted in 2014, showcase individuals who are a sophomore in athletic standing or higher who maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport. For the spring, athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, softball and baseball with valid academic credentials are eligible for recognition. New this season, these awards were based on the complete academic year grades, providing a more robust representation of classroom success throughout the year.

The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season – fall, winter, and spring – for all CCAA sponsored sports. In order to earn CCAA All-Academic team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and own a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport in that season.

The CCAA Winter All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's golf, men's and women's track & field, softball and baseball. Recently, the 79-member Winter All-Academic Team was released, and 312 student-athletes were already recognized on the Fall All-Academic Team. That brings the total number of seasonal All-Academic Award winners to 741 for the 2018-19 school year.
