LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — San Francisco State sophomore outfielder Brylynn Vallejos is among the fifty student-athletes from across the country who have been selected to the "Watch List" for the 2020 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year award.

Headlining the list are 27 returning NFCA All-Americans, seven from the first team, along with 10 from the second and third teams, respectively. Vallejos was a Second Team All-American and Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year finalist a year ago. The CCAA Freshman of the Year and All-CCAA First Team honoree was also named to the NFCA and D2CCA All-West Region First Teams, and was a D2CCA All-America Honorable Mention.

In her freshman campaign, Vallejos appeared in all 59 games as the Gators reached the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time since 2006. The Reno, Nevada native broke the program record in batting average (.442), hits (95), doubles (18), and runs (55); and her 95 hits were the fifth-most in a season in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) history as well as tied for the third-most across NCAA Division II. In addition to leading the CCAA in most offensive categories, she also led the conference in stolen bases with 32, which is the second-most recorded in a season in SF State history.

This season, Vallejos is hitting .393 in nine starts with three RBI, 10 runs, and is nearly halfway to last season's total of 32 stolen bases with 15 already this season.

The Top 25 finalists for the 2020 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year awards will be announced on April 23. A student-athlete does not have to be on the watch list to be considered for the Top 25. The top 10 finalists will be announced on May 12 and the winners will be recognized on May 28 following the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Behind the collaboration of the NFCA and its NCAA Division II Head Coaches Committee, along with the generosity of Schutt Sports, the award was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding athletic achievement among NCAA DII softball student-athletes.
