CCAA Hometown Heroes is a look at current and former CCAA student-athletes and staff who are now on the front lines in the worldwide fight against COVID-19. Individuals from CCAA member institutions have answered the call to help battle the pandemic, whether it be in the field of healthcare, as a first responder, through volunteer efforts or a variety of other essential services being performed throughout communities around the state and globe.Â
First responder
Brady Dorn hung up his cleats to put on a pair of boots, riding on the bus as an emergency medical technician in Compton, California. After a two-year career patrolling the infield for San Francisco State, where Dorn earned multiple All-Region honors as well as All-CCAA and All-Tournament Team honors, he now responds to 911 calls, assisting with prehospital emergency care.Â
His drive to help is knowing he's making an impact.
"[My motivation to help is] being able to make a small difference helping somebody on one of their worst days," Dorn says. "It's been a rough year with the COVID-19 crisis. Life has changed for the better as communities are realizing the importance of healthy habits and taking care of one another."
Dorn's collegiate career began at Baylor, continued at El Camino College, and concluded at San Francisco State, with baseball playing a key role throughout his youth and early adulthood.
"College athletics taught me how to operate in a high intensity, stressful environment," he reflects. "But what I took away the most is to cherish times you spend together with teammates, families, and loved ones as you never know when it'll be the last time."
The CCAA salutes Brady and first-responders everywhere, and all of our CCAA Hometown Heroes!Â
