SAN FRANCISCO — Each year, the Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award is bestowed upon two student-athletes at each CCAA member-institution. Recipients have distinguished themselves in the classroom and in their sport. In 2020-21, these 24 men & women are all upperclassmen, with one graduate student earning distinction. The recipients represent nine sports and a vast array of academic endeavors encompassing the sciences, business pursuits, the social sciences, communications and more. Each individual was chosen by their athletic department for their efforts as a true student-athlete representing both their school and the CCAA to the highest standards in both athletic and academic performance. Volleyball's Drew Morris and men's soccer Peter Swinkels were this year's CCAA Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award recipients for San Francisco State.

"The late Dr. Charnofsky was a dedicated faculty member who truly valued the student-athlete experience," said CCAA Commissioner Mitch Cox. "This award, given in his name at each CCAA institution, acknowledges the accomplishments both on and off the field these student-athletes have achieved."

Morris is a liberal studies major and will return for a fifth year. Through three seasons, she has appeared in 73 matches and has averaged 3 kills and 2.83 digs per set. She led the Gators to CCAA Championships appearances in 2018 and 2019. She was named to the All-CCAA First Team as a junior.

Swinkels graduated from SF State with a degree in Communications. He will be attending University of New Hampshire as a graduate student and hopes to pursue a professional soccer opportunity. A two-time All-CCAA Honorable Mention, Swinkels logged 138 career saves and a 1.13 goals against average in three seasons for the Gators.
