Naveed Bagheri was named the SF State Male Freshman Athlete of the Year. Bagheri was the Gator wrestling team’s starter at the 133 weight class and finished his first season with a 27-12 record. The Los Gatos, Calif., native earned All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) honors as well as being named the RMAC Freshman of the Year. Bagheri was the NCAA Division II West Regional Champion and qualified for the 2008-09 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships. At the Nationals in Houston, Texas, Bagheri placed fifth to earn All-America honors. He set the school single-season record with 44 two-point near falls and his 29 three-point near falls is currently eighth.
