Osterholt wrestled for SF State from 1977-79, proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
In 1979, the 177-pound wrestler claimed the Far West Conference Championship along with a NCAA Division II West Region Championship in the same year. With the wins, Osterholt went on to make his first national appearance and concluding the season, he earned All-Far West Conference honors.
After his collegiate wrestling days on the mat, Osterholt went on to compete in the US Olympic Trials as a Greco Roman wrestler and was a three-time National Place Winner in 1986, 1988 and 1989. In 1988, Osterholt earned a place on the U.S. National Wrestling Team.
Osterholt went on to work at Alhambra High School as an educator for 23 years and head varsity wrestling coach from 1985-2000. During his tenure, Overholt coached the 1997-98 Diablo Foothill Athletic League Championship team, two state qualifers, six North Coast Section place winners - including NCS champion Sean Fowler in 1993 - and three league champions.
