Defense Keys Gators Win Over Menlo

Brad Visman Recorded His First Double-Double as a Gator This Evening in Rohnert Park

Rohnert Park, Calif.--- SF State used a strong defensive effort this evening in the First Round of the 2008 Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic in Rohnert Park to key their 79-52 victory over the Menlo College Oaks (0-1) to improve to 2-0.  The Gators had three players in double digits led by Brad Visman (Placerville, California, UC Riverside) and Derek Fletcher (San Jose, California, Branham) each with 13 points while Robert Hayes (San Diego, California, St. Augustine's) chipped in 12 points.

“I am thrilled with our defensive effort and commitment,” said SF State Head Men's Basketball Coach Bill Treseler.  “Menlo is a solid team and they are going to have a good season, which makes this a very good win for us,” added Treseler.  “Brad, Daniel, and Kevin were very solid off the bench which is a good sign moving forward.”

SF State built a double digit lead (16-6) in the first nine minutes of the game and never looked back.  The Gators increased their lead 30-15 on a three by Hayes with 5:26 left in the half while taking a 37-25 lead into the half.

Menlo cut the  Gator lead to 39-30 in the first two minutes into the second half, but SF State went on a 18-6 run to increase its lead to 21 (57-36) on a lay-up by Hayes.  SF State never looked back as the Gators cruised to a 79-52 victory.

Visman recorded his first double double as a Gator with 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench and also blocked two shots.  He was 5 of 7 from the field and three of four from the line while Fletcher was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field and one for one from the charity stripe while grabbing seven rebounds.
