Men's Basketball Sweep Weekend Series from CSUSB and Pomona For First Time in School History

Will Logan Paced the Gators with 16 points to key their weekend sweep
Pomona, Calif..--- SF State men's basketball team improved to 10-7 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA as the Gators defeated the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (9-6, 5-5 CCAA) 66-62 this evening in Pomona, California. This was the first time in school history that the Gators swept the weekend series from CSU San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. The Gators also move one game out of fifth place with their 4-6 conference record.
            "That's an excellent effort against a very good team," said SF State Head Coach Bill Treseler.  "We defended hard and hit some big shots," added Treseler.  "BJ Visman, Will Logan, and Darryl Robinson stood up big time inside and Robert Hayes stepped up when we needed him."
            Will Logan (Apple Valley, California, Apple Valley) paced the Gators with 16 points, going 7 of 11 from the field including 1 of 2 from three's and a perfect one for one from the line. Alex Thomas (Vallejo, California, Dominican University) added 13 points and Robert Hayes (San Diego, California, St. Augustine's) had 12 points and four steals.

            The Gators jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game capped by a three by Thomas. Cal Poly Pomona followed that with a 9-3 run of its own to tie the game at 15-15. The game went back and forth for the rest of the half with six ties with the score being tied at 24-24 going into the locker room.
            The second half saw the Broncos taking a 32-29 lead four minutes into the second half, but the Gators would not let Cal Poly Pomona increase its lead as the game was tied five more times with the final time at 44-44 with 8:40 to go in the game. SF State went on a 13-3 run to take a 57-47 lead with 4:21 left in the game. 
            Cal Poly Pomona cut the lead to 62-59 with twenty-six seconds left on a Larry Gordon three-point play, who finished with a game high 28 points. SF State finished the game going four for six from the line to take the 66-62 victory.

SF State held the Broncos to 43% shooting from the field including 36% from three-point land while forcing 15 turnovers by its opponents. The Gators were out-rebounded by their opponents 36-22. They will continue their four-game road trip with two conference games next weekend at Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus on January 30 and 31.
