Gators Split With No. 14 CSU Stanislaus, But Take Weekend Series 3-1

Ashey Jackson Pitched Her Second Complete Game Victory in as Many Days
San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State's softball team split this afternoon's conference doubleheader with the visiting No. 14 Cal State Stanislaus Warriors (9-5, 4-4) taking game one 3-1 behind the pitching of Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent) (4-3) while the visitors came back and won game two 6-4 behind the timely hitting of Brittany Balanesi. With the split, SF State won three out of the four games from the Warriors and improved to 7-10 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA.
            The Gators scored all the runs that Jackson needed in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger) doubled home Monica Amburgey (Monterey, California, Monterey)(who reached on an infield single to open up the inning). Then with runners on second and third and two outs, Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty)reached on a two-base fielding error by the Warriors which scored both Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook) and Lea Cardenas to give the Gators a 3-0 lead.

            Eric McIntyre drove in the Warriors' only run in the sixth inning on a one-out single through the left side which scored Ashlee Genseal. Jackson shut the Warriors down in the final inning and two thirds to get the win. She pitched her third complete game and second in as many days while striking out two, walking four, and giving up seven hits and one run.
            SF State just managed four hits off of Jessica Gaumnitz, who picked up the loss falling to 5-3. Gaumnitz pitched six innings, giving up four hits, three runs (one earned) while striking out three and walking one. McIntyre led the Warriors' hitting attack going 3 for 3.
            In game two, SF State took a 4-0 lead with a four-run third which was keyed by a two-run double by Kelsey Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)which scored Karolyn Gubbine (Richmond, California, Pinole Valley) and Monica Amburgey.  The Warriors came back with four runs of their own in their half of the fourth inning with Britney Borba's two-run double to center field being the big hit. 
            Cal State Stanislaus won the game in the sixth on a two-run home run with two outs to right center off the bat of Brittany Balanesi. SF State had a chance to tie the game in the seventh, but Gaumnitz came on in and held the tying run on first base. 
            Vanessa Truan (San Jose, California, Leland)(1-2) recorded the loss in relief of Carolyn Knudson (Napa, California, Napa Valley Junior College). The Gators did manage 11 hits two each coming off the bats of Danielle Chapman (San Jose, California, San Jose City College), Karolyn Gubbine, Kelsey Wood, and Jessica Delgado (Monterey, California, North Monterey)
            Jennifer Arnold (4-2) picked up the win for the Warriors, pitching six innings, giving up nine hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out one and walking four. Gaumnitz recorded her first save by pitching a scoreless ninth and striking out three. Balanesi had two of the Warriors' six hits.
            SF State is off for two weeks and will return the diamond for a four-game CCAA series in San Bernardino against the CSU San Bernardino Coyotes the weekend of March 13-14.
