San Francisco, Calif.--- In thanks to Humboldt State's Gracie Perez's two complete game victories, the No. 5 Lumberjacks swept this afternoon's doubleheader from the SF State Gators (14-17, 6-14 CCAA) 4-0 and 4-2 to improve to 25-8 overall and 17-7 in the CCAA. Perez (11-3) pitched 14 innings, struck out 7, walked two, and gave up 8 hits and two runs (both unearned) in the Lumberjack sweep of the Gators at SF State's Softball Field.
Humboldt State scored the only run that Perez needed in game one on Natalie Galletly's RBI double in the first inning which scored Geneva Perrine. The Lumberjacks added insurance runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings to take the 4-0 conference win. Galletly finished game one going 2 for 4 with two RBIs while Marissa Slattery was 2 for 3 for Humboldt State.
Once again in game two, Humboldt State scored first with a three-run first inning capped by a two-out two-run single by Francesca West. Ashley Oltjenbruns two-out single to left center scored Caitlyn Klug in the Lumberjack sixth to increase the visitors lead to 4-0.
SF State battled back in its half of the sixth inning.
Danielle Chapman (San Jose, California, San Jose City College) hit her second double of the game to open up the Gator frame. She advanced to third when
Kelsey Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)reached on an error with two outs. Then
Lea Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger)hit a two-run two-out double to center field to cut the Lumberjack lead in half. Perez then hit
Monica Amburgey (Monterey, California, Monterey) to put the tying run on first, but got the next Gator to ground out to short to end the inning.
Nikki Ketteringham finished game two 2 for 4 while West had two RBIs to lead the way for Humboldt State.
Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)(2-5) took the loss for SF State, pitching six innings, giving up 7 hits and four runs while striking out two and walking three.
Truan pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Gators.
Chapman extended her season long hitting streak to 11 by going 3 for 4 with a run scored. All three of Chapman's hits were doubles.
SF State will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon at 1pm, when the Gators host Hawai'i-Hilo in a non-conference doubleheader at SF State's Softball Field.
