DAVIS, Calif. – Tyler Dalbey (Petaluma, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) and Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS) each won event titles on Saturday to lead the San Francisco State women's track and field squad at the UC Davis Classic at Woody Wilson Track in Davis, Calif.
Dalbey was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the tape with a career-fast time of 1 minute 3.41 seconds, which ranks third in school history. Musika, meanwhile, topped the field in the shot put with a season-best toss of 42 feet, 6.25 inches.
Besides the aforementioned victories, the Gators posted a dozen other top-10 performances on the day, including a runner-up effort by the 4x400 relay team of Samantha Eggert (Lincoln, Calif., Del Oro HS), Alicia Chambers (Roseville, Calif., Oakmont HS), Dalbey and Carrie Thomas (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS). The quartet clocked in at 3:53.74, which is now fourth on SF State's all-time outdoor performance list and marks the Gators' best time in the event since 1986. The same four runners also managed a third-place showing the 4x100 relay with a time of 48.44.
Chambers took third in the 200 meters as well with a time of 25.62, while fellow relay members Thomas (100 - 12.71) and Eggert (400 – 1:00.48) finished seventh and 10th in their respective races.
In addition to her shot put triumph, Musika notched career bests in two other events on Saturday, improving on her 2010 NCAA Division II qualifying mark in the discus with a second-place hurl of 145-10, while taking fifth in the hammer throw with a heave 143-04. Both marks now rank third and seventh, respectively, in school history. Joining Musika in the hammer throw were Cassie Freeman (Morro Bay, Calif., Morro Bay HS) (137-06) and Deirdra Bridgett (Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) (136-04), who wound up eighth and 10th, respectively.
Elsewhere, Kelsey Feeley (Palo Alto, Calif., Henry M. Gunn HS) came away with a fifth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:21.39, while Felicia Terwilliger (Eureka, Calif., Warwick (R.I.) West HS) and Meagen Moiola (Morro Bay, Calif., Morro Bay HS) tied for fifth in the high jump with a height of 5-04.25.
Select Gator runners will be back in action next weekend when they play host to the SF State Distance Carnival on Friday, March 26, at Cox Stadium.
