BERKELEY, Calif. – Brittany Garrett (Hoover, Ala., Univ. of Southern Mississippi) posted a season-best time of 4 minutes, 38.04 seconds in the open section of the 1,500-meter run Saturday to lead the San Francisco State track and field team on the final day of the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field on the University of California campus.
Garrett logged the Gators' second-fastest time ever in the event, just missing an NCAA Division II qualifying mark by 0.04 seconds.
Meanwhile, SF State's 4x400 relay team of Samantha Eggert (Lincoln, Calif., Del Oro HS), Stefeny Butler (San Jose, Calif., Mt. Pleasant HS), Tyler Dalbey (Petaluma, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) and Carrie Thomas (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS) recorded the fourth-fastest time in school history after clocking in at 3:52.95. Dalbey also managed a personal-best in the open section preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.09 seconds.
In addition, the Gators received a pair of top-10 performances from Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS), who finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 8.75 inches and Felicia Terwilliger (Eureka, Calif., Warwick (R.I.) West HS), who cleared 5-04.25 in the high jump to tie for eighth.
SF State will have two weeks to prepare for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, scheduled for May 6-8 in La Jolla, Calif.
