Jackson Keys Gators' Sweep Over Previously Unbeaten Wildcats

Ashley Jackson Went 2-0 and Had 12 Strikeouts in the Gators' DH Sweep of Chico State

CHICO, Calif---  SF State's senior pitcher Ashley Jackson went 2-0 as the Gators swept a road conference doubleheader from the Chico State Wildcats (9-4, 6-2 CCAA) 2-0 and 4-3 this afternoon at University Softball Field.  Jackson struck out 12 Wildcat batters and walked just one in the doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, the game was scoreless unitl the top of the 7th when the Gators scored twice.  Cara Spence reached on an error and then Kelsey Murakami came in to pinch run for her.  Kendra Wood then hit a pinch hit double to drive in Murakami with what proved to be the game-winning run.  Wood scored on a two-out double by Heather Jensen.

Jackson got the Wildcats to retire in order to pick up the game one shutout victory. She gave up just two hits while striking out six in the complete game victory.

Then in the night cap, Kelsey Wood led off the Gator third inning with a home run.  SF State (5-16, 3-13 CCAA) added two more runs later in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the inning to cut into the Gator lead, 3-1.  SF State added an insurance run when Kenda Wood led off the sixth with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. 

Chico State came back with a run in the sixth to make it 4-2 Gators heading into the bottom of the inning.  In their half of the seventh, the Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs but could get just one run across the plate as Jackson got the final Chico State batters out on two ground outs and a strike out.

Jackson pitched four innings of relief, giving up two runs (one earned) while striking out six and walking two.  She is now 3-9 on the season.
