HAYWARD, Calif. – The San Francisco State softball team opened its 2012 California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule on a sour note Friday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to host Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Field.
The Gators experienced a 9-1 defeat in game one, before suffering a 13-2 setback in the nightcap, falling to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
The Pioneers, meanwhile, hit banged out 23 hits and seven home runs in the twin-bill, including two each by Devin Salmones, Taylor Neumann and Sarah Holdridge, to raise their record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA.
Neumann and Holdridge finished the day with four RBI apiece, while Salmones knocked in three of her own and finished with three runs scored.
SF State grabbed an a 1-0 advantage in their first trip to the plate in game one as

However, East Bay tallied the equalizer in the bottom of the second when Salmones deposited a 3-1 pitch over the fence in right-center field off Gator starter

The Pioneers got the long ball working once again their half of the fourth as Emily Montanez delivered a three-run shot to left, plating Salmones and Holdridge, who previously walked and singled, respectively.
Leading 4-1, East Bay put up five additional markers in the fifth as Taylor Neumann got into the act with a two-run homer to bring in Jamie Yaller, who earlier got aboard on an infield hit, while Salmones followed with another solo shot. After Holdridge and Montanez reached on a single and double, respectively, Heidi McAllister cleared the bases with an additional two-bagger, ending the game on the eight-run rule.

Ali Garcia with one out in the fourth.
The Gators were unable to silence the Pioneer bats in the nightcap as Neumann and Holdridge each smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, while Yaller added an RBI double to erase a 1-0 deficit. SF State had drawn first blood in the top of the frame when
Ashley Huff singled in her first collegiate at-bat, driving in Jensen, who led off with a base hit to right and advanced on a
Brittany Barcellos sacrifice.
Trailing 5-1, the Gators added a run in the top of the second when
Courtney Gravel raced home on a double-steal play. Gravel, who was also making her debut for the Purple and Gold, previously hit a one-out single and subsequently reached third on a
Jordan Brenner base hit and a fielder's choice.
However, East Bay erupted for four runs in the third and fourth innings to put the game out of reach. In the fateful fourth frame, Holdridge connected for her second two-run dinger of the contest, while pinch-hitters Cassidy Zeiner and Jessica Machado added RBI singles.
Leading 13-2, Pioneer reliever Lauren Zweigle (2-1) retired the visitors in order in the fifth, saddling SF State with another run-rule defeat. Zweigle struck out four and gave up just one hit to earn the victory after taking over for starter Ferrari with two outs in the second. Conversely,
