SF State to face four teams at UNK Duals

Naveed Bagheri and the rest of the Gators face four opponents at the UNK Duals Saturday.
SAN FRANCISCO--San Francisco State heads east to face four teams, including two nationally-ranked squads, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Duals Saturday. The Gators will first take on Colorado State-Pueblo at 9 a.m. Saturday morning to start the action-packed day of duals off, followed by back-to-back-to-back matches of No. 16-ranked Adams State at 10:30 a.m., Newman University at 12 p.m. and No.14-ranked Colorado Mesa at 1:30 p.m.

Gator Notes
SF State comes off a sweep on Friday night. The Gators defeated Simon Fraser 29-10 and Pacific University 31-6 in a pair of duals hosted by Pacific. Six Gators remained undefeated on the night, led by Naveed Bagheri, who did not surrender a single point to his opponents. Bagheri defeated his two challengers by a combined 31-0 at the 141 weight class. … Conrad Snell also went 2-0 on Friday, grabbing his fourth pin of the season in his second match of the day at 1:37 in the 149 class—the only Gator to win by fall that night. … Vicente Aboytes, Isaiah Jimenez, A.J. Simon and Isaiah Hurtado also posted 2-0 records to help lift the Gators to both victories.

Colorado State-PuebloThunderWolves
Colorado State-Pueblo also competed at the Tracy Borah Duals, but came out of the weekend with a 1-3 record. The ThunderWolves lost in a close 22-19 result to California Baptist in the opening dual, but turned around to defeat the Air Force junior varsity squad 23-12. The Pack dropped their final two duals to Western Wyoming 29-20 and SW Minnesota 25-18 to end the day. … Jesse Hillhouse showed why he's the top-ranked 125 wrestler by winning three of his four matches by falls, with the other by forfeit, to go 16-3 on the year. … Nick Stahler also went undefeated at 157 with four decision victories.

Adams State Grizzlies
No. 16-ranked Adams State enters this week with only one dual under its belt after a dual scheduled for last Friday at New Mexico Highlands was postponed due to inclement weather. The Grizzlies will compete in one more dual, at #19 Fort Hays State on Jan. 17, before the UNK Duals Saturday. … In their only dual so far, the Grizzlies took a 21-15 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo with six of nine matches going in favor of ASU and outscoring CSU-Pueblo 60-31 on the mat. … Ranked seventh in the nation at 141, Ryan Fillingame sealed the Grizzlies' win with a 10-1 major decision win, putting him 14-5 on the year. \

Newman Jets
Newman comes off a successful showing at the Denker Open, hosted by Central Missouri, where four wrestlers placed in the competition. … Lorenzo Serna led the team with a third place finish in the heavy weight class, finishing the day with a 4-1 record. … Both J.P. Carter and Steven Cooksley took fourth place in the 133 pound and 197 pound competitions, respectively. After losing his first match, Cooksley had four-straight pins each in the first minute of action before surrendering a fall himself in the third place match. … Kris Worman rounded out the top four grapplers finishing sixth in the 125 group. … The Jets will wrestle again Wednesday before taking on the Gators at the UNK Duals.

Colorado Mesa Mavericks
No. 14-ranked CMU enters this week's competition with momentum from a three-game winning streak after taking down three teams at the 23rd Annual Tracy Borah Duals, hosted by Western State. The Mavericks first defeated Southwest Minnesota 32-9 with eight of 10 matches going in favor of CMU. Justin Schumacher led the day with his ninth pin of the season to win the 149 weight class, putting him at 18-5 overall. … In the second dual of the day, Colorado Mesa defeated Western Wyoming 34-15. … To conclude the day, the Mavericks grabbed a 29-18 victory over Air Force with Jon Gappmaier, who ranks third in the nation at 157, winning by fall to remain undefeated this season (6-0).
