SAN FRANCISCO --- SF State wrestlers Jordan Gurrola and Tavis Ino each placed in their respective weight class this afternoon in the U21 JC/College Open that was held at The Swamp on SF State's Campus. Gurrola finished as the runner-up at 125 while Ino finished in fourth place at 149.
 
 Gurrola went 3-1 in his first competition as a Gator at 125. He started off the day with a win by fall at 2:50 over Skyline College's Justin Osuna. The Gator freshman won by a 9-1 decision over Matthew Correa (UNA) in his next match. In the semi-final match, Gurrola defeated Josh Johnson (UNA) by a 9-2 decision. Then in the championship match, the Long Beach native lost by a 4-2 decision to Tommy Pawelski.
 
 Ino went 3-2 to capture fourth place at 157. The redshirt freshman won his first bout by a 17-0 technical fall decision over Sean Melton (UNA). In his next match, Ino advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Joseph Moure (UNA) by a 7-2 decision. He then lost to the eventual champion at 157 (Spencer Hill, UNA) by a 5-2 decision. Ino advanced to the third place match by defeating Simpson's Richard Ortiz by a 5-3 decision in overtime. He lost to Clakamas' Eleazar DeLuca in the third place match by a 9-2 decision.
 
 Also going 3-2 for the Gators was Dylan Furtado at 141. Furtado started his day by defeating Steele Escobedo (Menlo) by a 6-3 decision. The redshirt freshman won his next decision by fall (5:41) over Cuesta's Michael Bronze. He then lost in the semi-finals by a 10-2 major decision to the eventual champion Julian Purdy of Cuesta. Furtado then lost in the consolation semi-finals by a 5-2 decision to Cal Baptist's Dakota Thayer.
 
 Calvin Nicholls went 3-2 at 174 as he defeated James Sanchez (UNA) by a fall (1:04) in his first match. He then lost to Nick Troquato (UNA) by a 4-0 decision. Nicholls came back by winning by fall (4:35) over Keanu Morin (UNA). In his next match, Nicholls won by a 5-4 decision over Clakamas' Dustin Harris. The Gator sophomore was eliminated as he lost in the consolation semi-finals by fall (0:45) to Dylan Morris. \
 
 Johnathon Costa was another Gator with a winning record at 174. He started off with a 7-1 decision over Keanu Morin. Costa then lost to Dylan Morris by an 11-7 decision. Costa bounced back with a win by fall (2:10) over James Sanchez. In his next match, Costa won by a 7-2 decision over Sierra's Robin Callas. Costa was eliminated by Nick Troquato in the consolation semi-finals.
 
 At heavyweight, Hidelv Manzur went 3-2 in his first action in a SF State uniform. Manzur lost his match by a 2-0 decision in overtime to Raymond Grandy. Manzur bounced back with a win by fall (2:32) over Augie Alcantar. He then defeated his teammate, Sam Alnassiri, by a 4-3 decision. In his next match, he won by fall (4:35) over Josh Davis. Manzur lost in the consolation semi-finals by fall (4:15) to Grandy.
 
 Anthony Figueroa went 2-2 at 133 this afternoon. He won his first match by a 9-8 decision of Clackamas' Urmas Yanis. Figueroa lost his next match by a 12-4 major decision to Connor Scharm, who ended up winning the title at 133. The redshirt freshman came back with an 11-9 decision over Menlo's Juan Zorrilla. Victory Trujillo eliminated Figueroa with an 11-4 decision in the consolation semi-finals.
 
 Sam Alnassiri won his first match as a Gator at heavyweight with a 7-4 win over Clakamas' Brandon Johnson. Cal State Bakersfield's Steven Wood defeated Alnassiri by a 7-4 decision in the next round. Alnassiri then lost to his teammate, Hidelv Manzur, by a 4-3 decision.
 
 SF State will return to the mat one week from today, when the Gators travel to Forest Grove, Oregon, to participate in the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University. They will have their first dual on Thursday, November 21 at 6pm in Redding, Calif., against Simpson University. The Gators' home opener will be the following Sunday, November 24 at 1pm.
