Softball Sammi Sheppard, Asst. Sports Information Director

Another weekend on the road for Gators

SAN FRANCISCO --- For the fourth consecutive weekend, SF State will head back out on the road for a California Collegiate Athletic Association four-game series, this time taking on Cal State Stanislaus. The Gators (6-7, 2-6 CCAA) hope to regain their footing in the conference leaderboard after dropping the series at Chico State 1-3 last week.

Currently tied with the Gators for eighth, the Warriors (7-9, 2-6 CCAA) come into the weekend's matchup after dropping a similar 1-3 series at Cal State San Bernardino. CSUS won the first game of the series 15-6 in six innings, but fell in the remaining three games, including a 10-1 loss in five innings on the same day.

Head coach Cristina Byrne hopes to get her team back on the game plan that found the Gators success in the season opener as SF State took home the Best of the West tournament championship, hosted by CSUS. Byrne wants to see her players more aggressive at the plate, which they showed in a 9-0 six-inning victory at Chico State.

Courtney Gravel leads the Gators at the plate with a .390 batting average off a team-high 16 hits, including a triple and a pair of doubles. Marisa Andrade follows with a .333 average at the plate and Ashley Huff rounds out the top three with a .306 average. Huff leads the team with a .556 slugging percentage off 11 hits, four of which were triples. Kylie Grabowski tops the team with 11 RBIs, tying her for 12 in the conference leaderboard. From the circle, Marisa Ibarra boasts a 1.87 ERA, the fourth best in the CCAA, and has grabbed two shutouts in 45 innings pitched. Her five wins tie her for second in the CCAA as well.

Defensively, Grabowski and the Gators' pitching staff will look to limit the Warriors advancements if they get on base. Sarah Locarnini sits second in the conference with eight stolen bases so far, followed by Cierrah Mullins with seven stolen bases, sitting her tied for third. At the plate, Lauren Liming leads the Warriors with a .357 batting average and has hit two of the team's 10 home runs. Mullins follows with a .346 average off 18 hits, three of which have been homers.

The series begins Friday in Turlock with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader, which will begin also at noon, will conclude the four-game CCAA series. Fans can follow live stats of the four games at http://sidearmstats.com/csustan/softball/.
