Wills and Cabiness Highlight Day Two of Jacksons

NAMPA, Idaho----  SF State women's indoor track and field team participated in eight events in Day Two of the Jacksons/New Boise Indoor Invitational at the Jacksons Track Complex in Nampa, Idaho, with Maya Cabiness once again highlighting the Gators performance with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 8.86 in the 60 meter hurdles.  Senior jumper Tiana Wills matched her automatic qualifying mark in the high jump.

"Maya (Cabiness) had a phenomenal finals race in the hurdles today then came back and ran an aggressive 56.1 leg in our 4x4 relay," said SF State interim head coach Tom Lyons. "It's still early season, but this weekend she set two school records which were provisional marks (60H, 200) to go with her existing 400 and 4x4 relay school records."

Cabiness started her day with a provisional qualifying time of 8.86, which placed her third in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles.  She finished seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 9.08.

She also ran as a part of the 4x400 relay team consisting of her, Brionne Baucham, Tiana Wills and Anna Lee McGregor.  The Gators finished in fourth with a time of 3:54.07.

"Tiana (Wills) had a rough high jump waiting 90 minutes after warmups before taking her first attempt," added Lyons. "She was challenged by Utah State's top jumper (2013 Mountain West champ) winning the event on her final attempt at 5-10.75 (1.80m)."

Wills for the second week in a row automatically qualified for the nationals with a mark  of 5-10.75 in the high jump.

"Anna Lee (McGregor)  improved her 400m mark placing 5th overall in a good field and then anchored the relay in a 57.1 split, overtaking WSU to win the heat," noted Lyons.   "Janesha Anthony (7th in 60m) and freshman Angel Hill (8th in triple jump) had great days as well."  "We've had a great start to the season, this weekend was a huge success with the national-level marks and top finishes as well as seeing all of our athletes continue to improve."

The Gators will return to the state of Idaho next weekend as they will participate in the Ed Jacoby Invitational back at the Jacksons Track Complex in Nampa.
