Gators Boast Impressive Performances At Aggie Open

Hilary King placed third in the long jump and set a PR in the 100m on Saturday at the Aggie Open.
Davis, Calif. – The SF State track and field team boasted yet another impressive day on the track, this time competing in the Aggie Open hosted by UC Davis at the Woody Wilson Track. The Gators competed in 15 events over two days.

"It was a warm day, and our girls responded well," said assistant coach Nichole Schutte. "The 4x4 team finished with a time of 4:03, which is great for having some new members. Kareezia (Younger) and Laura (Stokes) stepped up big and filled in some spots. All in all another good day on the track."

The 4x400 relay team comprised of Ashley Black, Jordan Guerrero, Brionne Baucham and Maya Cabiness finished second with an official time of 4:03.34.

The 4x100 relay followed, with the Gators placing third and fifth in a field comprised mostly of division I teams. The "A" squad comprised of Janesha Anthony, Maya Cabiness, Hilary King, and Brionne Baucham finished third with a time of 47.24. The "B" squad made up of Marina Tucker, Erica Hayes, Jazmine Tyler and Laura Stokes finished fifth overall with a time of 50:89.

"Our 4x100 team was rocking with a time of 47.2 which is just off the provisional mark," added Schutte.

In the 1500M race Lindsey Ragas placed 19th with a time of 5:08.81, just behind her in 25th was Lea Rocha who clocked in with a time of 5:38.95.

In the 100m hurdles Laura Stokes placed 12th with a time of 15:41.

Five Gators competed in the 100m sprints, with Anthony placing sixth overall with a time of 12.28 to lead SF State. Placing 11th was King with a time of 12.66, Hayes finished in 23rd with a time of 13.44, behind her was Jordan Guerrero in 25th with a time of 13.61 and in 26th was Tucker clocking in at 13.83.

Guerrero had a quick turn-around, competing in the 400m hurdles, she placed seventh overall with a time of 1:08.27.

In the 3000m race Rocio Pacheco placed seventh with a time of 11:33.46.

In the long jump Hilary King placed third, finishing with a distance of 5.31 (17-5.25"), in fourth was Ruth Le Beau who jumped a distance of 5.29m (17-4.25"). Hill placed seventh with jump of 5.10m (16-8.75") and behind her was Anthony with a jump of 4.84m (15-10.50").

"Hilary King had a great day in the long jump, which she followed up with a PR in the 100," said Schutte.

In the shot put Alex Jones placed 11th with a throw of 11.80m (38-8.75"). Behind her in 17th was Symone Ramirez with a throw of 10.34m (33-11.25").

In the discus Michelle Chung placed sixth with a toss of 38.03m (124-09"), Ramirez placed 12th with a throw of 34.08m (111-10). In the Hammer toss Chung placed fifth with a throw of 47.15 (154-08"), while Ariana Luster placed 15th with a throw of 29.79m (97-09).

"Alex (Jones) and Michelle (Chung) had some more consistent performances in the shot put and hammer, continuing to build on their solid season," said Schutte.

In the pole vault the Gators had just Jazmine Tyler competing, she finished 16th, clearing 2.90m (9-6.25").

In the high jump Kareezia Younger placed sixth clearing 1.60m (5-3"), Ashley Black placed ninth clearing the bar set at 1.50m (4-11").

In the javelin Jordan Brittner made her Gators debut and placed 10th with a throw of 26.42 (86-08"). Black finished 11th with a throw of 22.53 (73-11) and in 12th was Jenni Albee with a throw of 18.09 (59-04).

In the triple jump Angel Hill placed fifth with a distance of 10.28m (33-8.75").

The Gators will return to action on Saturday, March 22 when SF State returns home to host the Johnny Mathis Invitational at Cox Stadium.
