Box Score 2 San Francisco, Calif. – The SF State softball team split its CCAA doubleheader against Chico State on Saturday, losing game one 5-1 before rebounding to take the second half of the twin billing 5-1. Pacing the Gators was a dominating pitching performance from freshman lefty
Megan Clark who held the Wildcats to just five hits over seven innings.
The Gators (10-21/6-14 CCAA) were in need of a great pitching performance after the Wildcats (15-12/11-9 CCAA) took the series with the game one win. Clark (4-7) did her part, going the distance for her eighth complete game of the season, holding the Wildcats to one run in the sixth and just five hits, while walking three and striking out one.
The reason for Clark's success was once again her ability to get the leadoff batter out, and also held Chico's 1-2-3 hitters in check. In her last three starts, Clark has posted a stellar 0.74 ERA, in 19.0 innings of work she has scattered 16 hits, two earned runs with four walks and 10 strike outs.
The Wildcats only threat came in the sixth inning when the Wildcats' Sammi Ridgway beat out an infield sing with one out, speedy Alli Cook followed that up with another infield single, a third-straight hit by Kelli Keefe loaded the bases with one out for the Wildcats. First baseman Desiree' Gonzalez singled back up the middle to plate a run, but the Gators stopped the rally there to preserve the 2-1 lead, Clark go a pop up to first and a lazy fly ball to center to end the threat.
The Gators responded with their most prolific rally of the series, scoring three runs on three hits to put the game away. Capping off the rally was a two-run single from center fielder
Jennifer Lewis. Lewis finished the day going 2-for-4 with those two RBI.
The Gators also scored a run in the third and fourth inning, all told SF State collected five runs on 11 hits. Taking the loss in game two for the Wildcats was starter Brooke Langeloh (4-2) who went six complete, one earned run with two strike outs.
In the first game of the series the Wildcats jumped out early lead scoring four runs in the top of the first, coming on five hits. The big hit of the game was a solo home run by Ridgway to lead off the top of the second, it was the run that ended the day for starter
Emily Gibson (5-10) who lasted just 1.2 innings, surrendering seven hits, five runs, four earned with a walk.
Coming on relief was reliever
Courtney Dunkel who turned in her finest performance of the season. The sophomore threw a brilliant 5.1 innings, scattering four hits and held the Wildcats scoreless.
Alex Molina (7-6) earned the win for Chico State, she went 7.0 complete, holding the Gators to just four hits, one earned run with three walks
