Gators Track and Field Battles Wet and Rainy Conditions at Brutus Hamilton Invitational

The Gators had nine athletes competing at the rainy Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Friday.
Berkeley – The SF State track and field team battled wet and rainy conditions while competing at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, hosted by California at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley.  The Gators had nine athletes competing in six events on Friday afternoon.

"Today was about getting a workout in and making sure we felt confident," said assistant coach Nichole Schutte.  "The weather wasn't ideal with lots of rain but the kids stuck it out and competed.  The highlight of the day was Laura Stokes running a 15.08 in the 100m hurdles.  We're ready to head into conference."

Stokes placed fourth overall with a time of 15:08, in the field that features many athletes from Division I and II schools.

In the 100m dash the Gators had four athletes competing, led by Janesha Anthony's second place finish.  She clocked in with a time of 12:39, just one tenth of a second behind first.  Brionne Baucham placed seventh with a time of 12:77; behind her was Erica Hayes in ninth finishing with a tie of 13:43.  Marina Tucker placed 11th with a time of 13:51.

In the hammer, Michelle Chung finished 11th in her flight and 26th overall with a throw of 38.67m (127-02.)

Jazmine Tyler cleared 3.05m (10-00) in the pole vault in her second attempt to finish 11th overall.  Ruth Le Beau placed ninth in the long jump, third in her flight with a leap of 5.10m (16-8.75.)

In the shot put Alex Jones placed third in her heat, and was 12th overall with a throw of 10.57m (34-8.25.)

The Gators will travel to La Jolla, Calif. next week to participate in the CCAA Championships at UC San Diego's Triton Track and Field Stadium.
