@SFState_SOFT Set To Host Rival Sonoma State For Four Game Tilt

SAN FRANCSICO – The SF State softball team returns home this weekend, and pending the weather, will play a four-game series against rivals Sonoma State.  The series begins with a Friday double header beginning at noon, the Gators and Seawolves will resume the series on Saturday with game one beginning at 11 a.m.

SF State enter this weekend's series with an overall record of 6-7 and are 3-5 in the CCAA.  Last weekend the Gators drew a series split on the road against Cal State Monterey Bay, taking games one and three of the series but falling to the Otters in two and four.

Against the Otters, the Gators found their power stroke.  SF State entered the series with just eight extra base hits.  Last weekend SF State clubbed 14 extra base hits, including three home runs and 10 doubles.  None bigger than Kayli Shaw's two-run blast that briefly tied the game in the series finale.

As a team, SF State is hitting .262 which is 10th in the CCAA, they are averaging 4.38 runs per game.  In the circle the Gators boast a 2.97 team ERA which is fifth in the conference, they are holding opponents to a .233 batting average which ranks third in the CCAA.

The Gators trio of Megan Clark, Jenny Obbema and Lindsey Cassidy are all in the top-20 in the league in ERA, with Clark ninth in the CCAA with a 2.29 ERA.  Cassidy is fourth in the conference holding opponents to a .200 batting average, while Obbema is ninth, limiting foes to a .230 average.

Last weekend, Clark dominated.  She finished the series with a 2-1 record, in 17.2 innings pitched she held the Otters to 19 hits and three runs, only one of which was earned.  Clark started off the series throwing a complete game, eight hitter, surrendering just one earned run.

Offensively, the Gators were led by the combo of Angelica Terrel and Sara Higa.  Terrel hit .500 for the weekend, going 7-for-14 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in.  Higa continued her hot hitting to start the year, she collected six hits on the weekend.  Chelsea Brent, Kasie Trezona also had big weekend's driving in four RBI's apiece for the Gators.

Sonoma State enters this weekend's contest with an overall record of 10-6, on the road they are 3-3 away from Rohnert Park and are 7-3 in the CCAA.  They are currently riding a hot streak, having won four in a row, and six of their last seven.

On Tuesday the Seawolves took both games of a midweek double header against Cal State Monterey Bay, winning game one 6-0 and the nightcap 4-2.  As a team, the Seawolves are hitting .285 while averaging 4 runs per game.  In the circle, they boast a staff ERA of 2.27.

Leading the team in hitting is Jenna Kaser who is hitting .435, she has 20 hits on the year, five of them are doubles with two home runs.  Amanda Llerena leads the team with a 6-3 record and a 1.39 ERA.  In 70.2 innings pitched she has allowed 62 hits, 14 earned runs with 50 strike outs.
