CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The San Francisco State wrestling team's season came to a close on Friday at the 2018 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at the US Cellular Center, hosted by Upper Iowa University.

Nathan Cervantez both went 1-2 in their respective weight classes. Vu finishes the season at 22-12 while Cervantez concludes his season at 25-7.
"All in all, we had a good first season together and took a strong step in the right direction," said first-year Head Coach

Brandon Vu both placed Top 12 in the nation, just one match away from All-American status, and I know that this will fuel them for the coming seasons.
At 133 pounds, Cervantez won his first bout of the day, 9-7 over No. 12 Adam Hedin of top-ranked St. Cloud State. Cervantez dropped a 9-0 major decision to No. 1 Airk Furseth of Wisconsin Parkside. Cervantez's season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to No. 10 Dustin Kirk of King University.
In the 125-lb. weight class, Vu dropped his first bout of the day, 12-8, to No. 2 Ivan McClay of Notre Dame Ohio. The redshirt sophomore kept his season alive with a 9-2 win over No. 11 Austin Neal of Newberry but dropped a close 5-2 decision to No. 3 Brett Velasquez of St. Cloud State.
"I'm extremely excited for the work ahead," added Welch. "We made this leap in seven months and we'll put in the work to make an even larger leap next time."
