TURLOCK, Calif. – Day one of the CCAA Championships is in the books for the No. 8 San Francisco State track & field team on Thursday as the Gators competed in five events on the day.
Devanique Brown kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the 100m hurdles to begin the heptathlon events. She recorded a personal-best 14.62, and was one of just two competitors under the 15-second mark.
In high jump, Brown cleared 1.52m to take sixth overall while
An Vo hit 1.31m. Brown followed with an 11.92m to take first place in shot put, beating out the second-place finisher by over a meter which she recorded on her very first throw. Vo threw a personal-best 9.46m to take seventh.
The duo wrapped up the day in the 200m, with Brown tying-for-first with a personal-best 25.88. Vo also recorded a PR in the event with a 27.77.
Brown sits in first in the heptathlon standings with 3,000 points, while Vo is in 12
th with 2,043.
Over at the hammer throw finals,
Destiny Mack-Talalemotu earned All-Conference honors by taking second with a provisional-qualifying distance of 53.99, which she recorded on her fourth toss of the afternoon. She becomes the seventh All-CCAA honoree in the event in program history.
Alison Sexson narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish by recording a 48.82m.
Simone Reynolds took sixth in the field with a personal-best 45.52m. In ninth came
Sabrina Dozier with a 43.05m, while
Jessica Tarm (PR 40.41m) and
Marisela Cardenas (39.18m) rounded out the Gators.
SF State currently sits tied-for-first place in the overall team standings with 16 points after day one.
