Gators Place 31 Student-Athletes on CCAA Spring All-Academic Team

SAN RAMON, Calif. – A total of 31 San Francisco State student-athletes were named to the 2018 California Athletic Association Spring All-Academic Team, the CCAA announced this morning.
 
Track & field led the way for the Gators with 14 honorees on the All-Academic team. Devanique Brown, Bianca Bryant, Kayla Duclayan, Kennedy Hardemion, and Courtney Massengale made it consecutive seasons on the Spring All-Academic Team while Janelle Bandayrel, Adriana Calva, and Alison Sexson earned the honor for the third-straight year. Sophomores Morgan Leonard, Sarah Martinez, Arianna Prestosa, Jade Jones, Jordan Linsky, and graduate student Cassie Stansberry all made their debuts on the list this campaign.
 
Baseball placed 11 on the All-Academic team, with Brett Elgin and Grant Vogenthaler earning the recognition for the third time in their careers. Joining the duo are fellow seniors Jordan Abernathy, Chris Hayman, Zac Neumann, and Kyle Smith. Juniors Cameron Crone and Damon DeVirgilio, and sophomores Jack Higgins, Connor Fidone, and Jackson Kritsch round out the Gators on the list.
 
Six softball players represented SF State on the All-Academic team. Delanie Chrisman wrapped up her Gator career with three-straight honors while Madison Collins earned her second-consecutive plaudit. Sara Higa, Katie Rohrer, Karla Soto, and Angelica Terrel made their All-Academic Team debuts this season.
 
A total of 348 men and women from across the CCAA's 13 member institutions were recognized, which is up from last spring's total of 318 and 2016's list of 295.
 
The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per-season for all CCAA sponsored sports, which include men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, baseball, softball, and track and field. To be eligible for the CCAA Spring All-Academic Team, student-athletes shall be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and may include graduate students; must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better; and must have competed in a conference-sponsored sport in that season.
