San Francisco –
Jimmy Meuel has joined the San Francisco State baseball coaching staff for the 2021-22 season, Head Coach
Tony Schifano announced. Meuel brings with him over 10 years of coaching experience and has coached at all three levels of NCAA.
"Jimmy is well respected for his tireless work ethic and attention to detail throughout the Bay Area and beyond," said Schifano. "He has extensive experience working with college pitching staffs over the past decade and a half and I am excited to get to work with him again. He will be a tremendous addition to our program."
Meuel has held various roles with college baseball programs up and down the West Coast, including at Division I programs San José State, UC Davis, and University of San Francisco. He was UC Davis' first-ever director of baseball operations. His first coaching job came in 2008 as the pitching and recruiting coordinator at Menlo. In his three years with the Oaks, Menlo set school records in wins and shutouts, ERA, and walks. Meuel also served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for one season at Lewis & Clark and two seasons at Academy of Art.
"I am very excited to join San Francisco State. After spending most of my career in the Bay Area, I have a lot of respect for SF State as an institution and the work that Coach Schifano has done with the baseball team," said Meuel. "I want to thank him and Director of Athletics
Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait to work with this talented group of student-athletes."
Most recently, Meuel has served as a head coach and the assistant program director for Headfirst Baseball Academy. There, he co-leads program management for the largest baseball academy in California with over 500 players between the ages of eight and 18. He also developed the academy's college advising program.
Meuel earned his BA in History from Willamette, where he was also a three-year letter winner. At the time, he set the school's Division III record for pitching appearances with 18 in a season.
Meuel and his wife, Annette, reside in Oakland with their sons, Henry and August.
