16th Ranked Grapplers Split on Senior Day

7 Gators Defeated Simon Fraser 31-16 in Their Final Home Match of 2013-14
SAN FRANCISCO---  In their final two home duals of the 2013-14 regular season, it was the 16th ranked SF State Gators going 1-1 with a 24-12 loss to NCAA Division I Cal State Bakersfield and a 31-16 win over Simon Fraser.  SF State is now 7-4 in duals and will host the 38th Annual California Collegiate Open Invitational tomorrow morning starting at 9am. 
 
Two Gators went 2-0 in their final home matches of the career in Isaiah Hurtado (133) and Zach Jimenez (184).  Hurtado won both of his matches by fall with a win by fall in the 43rd second of his match over the Roadrunners' Jose Mendoza.  He then won by fall at the 5:19 mark over Sukhuan Chahal of Simon Fraser to improve to 22-6 on the season.  The Gator senior now has four wins by fall on the season.
 
Jimenez won his first match by a 5-4 decision over Cal State Bakersfield's Sean Pollack and defeated Josh Kim of Simon Fraser by an 11-3 major decision to improve to 19-9.
 
In the Gators' dual against the Roadrunners, the visitors won the first three matches to take a 12-0 lead.  Spencer Hill started off the dual for' Runners with a 2-1 decision over the Gators' Tavis Ino at 157 to improve to 15-11.  At 165, David Meza won by a 15-3 major decision to improve his record to 16-15 with the win over the Gators' Vicente Aboytes.  Then at 175, Bryce Hammond won by a 21-5 technical fall decision over SF State's Calvin Nicholls.  Hammond improves to 15-10.
 
SF State won its first match of the dual as Jimenez won by a 5-4 decision over the Roadrunners' Sean Pollack (8-19) at 184.  Cal State Bakersfield increased its lead to 18-3 with wins at 197 (Reuben Franklin 9-4 decision over Andrew Reggi) and 285 (Sammy Cervantes by a 4-1 decision over Hildelv Manzur.
 
SF State cut the deficit to 18-12 as the Gators won the next two matches.  At 125, Marc Collier defeated Matt Correa (9-12) by a 3-2 decision and then Hurtado won by fall (0:43) over Jose Mendoza (21-10).
 
Cal State Bakersfield won the final two matches at 141 and 149 each by decision to take the dual 24-12 to improve to 4-6.  Ian Nickell (16-8) defeated the Gators' Dylan Phillipy by a 7-5 decision at 141 and Conrad Snell lost by a 7-3 decision to Dalton Kelley (12-14).
 
In their dual with the Clan, the Gators won the first match by forfeit at 157 as Ino improved to 15-11.  Simon Fraser won the next two matches at 165 and 174 to take a 7-6 lead.  Brock Lamb won by a 13-2 major decision over the Gators' A.J. Simon (2-7) and then at 174, Nicholls (6-17) lost by a slim 7-6 decision to Reid Watkins.
 
SF State retook the lead as Jimenez won by an 11-3 major decision over the Clan's Josh Kim.  Then the Gators won his second consecutive match by major decision, this time by a 14-4 score at 197 as Andrew Reggi (20-6) defeated Ryan Yewchin.
 
The Clan won the next two matches to retake the lead, 16-14.  Sean Molle defeated the Gators' Manzur (14-12) by a 2-1 decision at 285.  Then at 125, it was the Clan's Skylor Davis, who is a returning All-American, defeating the Gators' Marc Collier (7-8) by fall (4:10).
 
SF State won the final three matches of the dual to take it 31-16. 
 
Hurtado won by fall (5:19) at 133 over Sukhan Chahal.  Then at 141, Phillipy improved to 18-10 with a win by 18-0 technical fall over Dillon Hume.  Conrad Snell improved to 15-11 with a win by forfeit at 149.
