Grapplers To End Regular Season in Riverside

Conrad Snell is 15-11 this Season Heading Into his Final Regular Season Dual of his Collegiate Career
SAN FRANCISCO ---  The 16th ranked SF State Gator wrestlers will end their regular season this Friday evening in Riverside, Calif., as they take on Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foe, Cal Baptist at 7pm.  The Lancers are currently 10-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC while the Gators are 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC.
 
The Gators are coming off a 28-18 win at Menlo College this past Thursday in Atherton, Calif. The Oaks were ranked 15th in the nation in the NAIA.  SF State won six of the 10 matches including two by major decisions and won by technical fall.  Dylan Phillipy improved to 22-11 on the season after defeating the Oaks' Steele Escobedo by a 16-0 technical fall at 141.  While at 174, Calvin Nicholls is now 7-17 after winning by a 14-5 major decision over Paul Bracamonte.  Jordan Gurrola won by a 9-0 major decision at 133 as he improved to 16-8. 
 
SF State has 8 grapplers that have over 15 wins this season including three that have recorded 20+ in Isaiah Hurtado (26-8) at 133, Andrew Reggi (23-8) at 197, Zach Jimenez (22-11) at 184 and Phillipy (22-11) at 141.
 
Cal Baptist is coming off a 20-15 loss to Cal State Bakersfield this past week as four Lancers won at 125, 157, 197 and 285.  Bryden Lazaro, who is currently number one in the NCAA Division II, won by an 11-8 decision over the Roadrunners' Sergio Mendez to improve to 23-6 at 125.  At 157, Brady Bersano won by a 6-2 decision over Spencer Hill to improve to 28-6.  Bersano is currently second in the nation. 
 
Then at 197, Caleb Gerl (20-4) defeated Reuben Franklin by a 3-2 decision and at 285, Jacob Mitchell won by fall (1:28) over Alex Encarcion to improve his record to 10-0.
 
The Lancers and Gators each have faced 7 of the same opponents this season including Bakersfield.  They also have faced Adams State, Western State Colorado, Menlo, Simon Fraser, Cal Poly and Stanford. 
 
SF State is 4-3 against those 7 opponents while the Lancers are also 4-3.  The Gators defeated Western State Colorado by a 24-12 decision while Cal Baptist lost to the Mountaineers 24-20.  The Lancers defeated Cal Poly 19-18, but SF State lost to the Mustangs on a tie-breaker as the Gators and Cal Poly ended the dual with a 16-16 decision.
 
This is both teams' last match before the NCAA Division II Super Region IV/RMAC Championships that will be held on February 28-March 1 in Grand Junction, Colo., on the campus of Colorado Mesa.  The top three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes on March 1 will qualify for the 2013-14 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships on March 14-15 at Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
Last year, SF State finished in 10th place at the Nationals and had two All-Americans including a National Champion.  Naveed Bagheri was a National Champion while Isaiah Jimenez placed fifth at the nationals in Birmingham, Alabama.
