BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The San Francisco State wrestling team picked up invaluable experience on Sunday at the Bakersfield Invitational but had little to show in the way of results against a heavy lineup of NCAA Division I wrestlers.

"The team is constantly improving and that's what's important to me," said Head Coach Jason Welch. "A good example of this is Romeo Medina-Ontiveros, who highlighted our team's performance with his sixth-place finish."

Medina-Ontiveros went the furthest of any Gator on Sunday with his sixth-place finish in the 165-pound weight class. He dropped his first bout, then won by fall and forfeit against a pair of Menlo wrestlers. The junior avenged a loss from two weeks ago with a 16-6 major decision over Josh Annis, a Bakersfield wrestler who was competing unattached. Medina's day came to an end with an 8-4 loss to Maryland's Brendan Burnham.

Mason Boutain recorded a pair of falls and went 2-2 on the day in the 157-pound weight class. Kevin Henry also went 2-2 on the day with a decision and a pin in the 184-pound weight class.
