SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State men's wrestling team moved to 2-2 on the season with a 50-0 sweep over visiting Simpson on Saturday.
"Everyone wrestled really well for us today. A big thing for us isn't even necessarily on the mat," said San Francisco State Head Coach
Jason Welch. "The guys had a lot of enthusiasm today. They were cheering, they were into the match, and they were there for their teammates.The past few weeks, we've really become a lot closer as a team."
The Red Hawks (0-3) started at a disadvantage and forfeited at the 133, 141, 165, and 184-pound bouts. It was the Gators' most dominant win since a 51-0 victory over Simpson in January 2014.
Brandon Vu started things off with a major decision, and followed by a pair of forfeits, SF State quickly led 16-0 after just three bouts.
Isiah Alva needed just over a minute to record a fall, his third pin of the season and second pin in as many bouts. Senior
Landon Myers, who was honored alongside fellow senior
Sam Alnassiri, in a prematch Senior Day ceremony, earned an 11-4 decision at 157 pounds for his first win of the season.
Maleselino Salt got the start at 165 pounds and recorded an escape in the final seconds to earn a 7-6 victory over Layten Briggs.
Kevin Henry earned a major decision to make it 44-0 and Alnassiri finished the day off with a pin of Chris Borba.
