CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 9 San Francisco State track & field team opened up the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday breaking more personal bests and a program record.
 
Devanique Brown kicked off the day in the 100m hurdles, which was the first event in the Heptathlon. She took third in her heat with a 14.87, putting her in eigthth place overall. In high jump, she opened up clearing the first four marks and then hit 1.54m to notch a new PR. The distance is the best recorded by a Gator since 2014 when Kareezia Younger cleared 1.65m.
 
In shot put, Brown shined with a personal-best throw of 12.69m, which she notched on her second attempt. That mark didn't last long as on her final throw she recorded a 13.29m, securing her first-place finish. The distance is the sixth-best mark in program history, and she is the only heptathlete to eclipse the 12-meter mark in the event.
 
She wrapped up the day in the 200m with a time of 26.11, and sits tied-for-third in the overall heptathlon standings with 3,060 points.

Maya Cook, 
Alexis Henry, and 
Jazmine Smith cruised on through to the finals with a program-record time of 45.45, topping the previous Gator best by nearly half a second. The result is also the fifth-fastest time in the nation this season. The finals take place on Saturday at 3:35 p.m. ET.
 
Destiny Mack-Talalemotu made her NCAA Outdoor Championship debut in the hammer finals, taking second in her flight with a 55.11m.
 
 In the 400m, Smith ran a personal-best time of 55.01 to take 13
th in the field, and 
Timarya Baynard recorded a 56.53. 
Vanessa Koontz concluded the day in the 400m hurdles for SF State, crossing in 1:02.51.
