SAN FRANCISCO--- In a battle of nationally ranked teams at The Swamp, it was the visiting Stanford Cardinal (13-4) defeating the 19
th ranked SF State Gators 33-8. The Cardinal are currently ranked 25
th in the nation in NCAA Division I.
The Cardinal started off with a 10-0 major decision by Tommy Pawelski at 125 over the Gators'
Marc Collier with the win, Pawelski improves to 18-11. Collier falls to 6-7. SF State took an 8-4 lead after the next matches at 133 and 141.
Isaiah Hurtado improved to 20-6 with a 20-4 win by technical fall over the Cardinal's Eric Cramer (7-9) at 133. Then at 141, SF State's
Dylan Phillipy (17-9) won by a 7-4 decision over Stanford's Peter Russo (4-8).
The Cardinal won the next the seven matches including won by a 2-1 slim decision at 184 as Tommy Kimbell defeated the Gators'
Zach Jimenez.
SF State (6-3) will return to the mat this Friday, January 31 for a pair of non-conference duals with Cal State Bakersfield at 1pm and Simon Fraser at 3pm. The Gators will host the annual California Collegiate Open a week from today beginning at 9am.
