SB | Vallejos Earns First CoSIDA Academic All-America® Honor

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State softball player Brylynn Vallejos has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America® Softball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The 2020 Academic All-America® Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Previously named to the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-District® Softball First Team, Vallejos sports a 3.86 GPA and is the only sophomore among the All-America honorees, as well as the lone representative from the West Region. The Reno, Nevada native entered the season named to the 2020 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Watch List and went on to collect CCAA All-Star honors. The centerfielder led the conference with a .424 batting average, 36 hits, and 26 runs. She was second in the nation with 28 stolen bases, which led the CCAA. Her 18 walks and pair of triples ranked third in the conference, while her .612 slugging percentage ranked fifth.

Due to the truncated 2020 season, this year's awards were based on career accomplishments. As a freshman in 2019, Vallejos was an NFCA Second Team All-American and the CCAA Freshman of the Year. In her freshman campaign, Vallejos appeared in all 59 games as the Gators reached the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time since 2006.  She broke the program record in batting average (.442), hits (95), doubles (18), and runs (55); and her 95 hits were the fifth-most in a season in CCAA history, as well as tied for the third-most across NCAA Division II. In addition to leading the CCAA in most offensive categories, she also led the conference with 32 stolen bases, which is the third-most recorded in a season in SF State history.

The Division II CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II Academic All-America® program.
